WiggleCRC takes backup power up a gear at Mallusk headquarters

Online cycling and tri-sports retailer WiggleCRC has invested in state-of-the-art backup power equipment at its new Northern Ireland headquarters in Mallusk, County Antrim, to ensure it has an uninterruptible supply in the event of power failure.

Working in partnership with local backup power specialist company Continu, WiggleCRC identified the need for a solution that would ensure all its systems would be protected should power fail at any time. An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system was specified to provide continual back up power to the electrical infrastructure within the building.

Continu employs a team of nine experts, with a sub-contracted backup team of 15 engineers, providing the complete solution for backup power requirements to the I.T. sector across many markets from Health to Government and agri food.

Much of Continu’s growth in recent years has stemmed from a company-wide ethos of ‘exceptional customer care.’

“We are extremely proud to be working alongside WiggleCRC, a major online retailer, to have safeguarded their operations in the event of power failure,” said Tom Hall, Continu.

“We built a bespoke solution for WiggleCRC including the highly energy efficient Delta Ultron series of UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply). The HPH series 20kVA 3:3 UPS with batteries mounted in an external cabinet providing 25 minutes autonomy at full load.

The system will mean that should our power fail, even for a few seconds, WiggleCRC’s data will suffer no impact.”

Maurice Donaldson, MD WiggleCRC added:

“The sheer scale and critical nature of the data we house, combined with the complexity of our systems, means that we simply cannot risk power failure impacting upon our business.

“Continu was able to provide a cost-effective, sophisticated UPS system that will allow our business to operate with zero risk from power loss. Protection from this type of damage is simply crucial for an organisation to consider.”

WiggleCRC was formed in 2016 when Chain Reaction Cycles, the world’s largest online bike shop, merged with Wiggle, which specialised in cycling, running, swimming and triathlon products and accessories.

Backup power is not simply about power failure but about continuous filtering of unstable electricity from the grid.
